Kasawan Falls – Cebu

Kawasan Falls is a very popular destination in the southern part of Cebu. About a 2-hour drive located in Badian Town. When you arrive you will have to walk about 20 minutes or so along a rocky path to reach the main waterfall. There’s a beautiful stream and a large variety of tropical plants along the path.  Be sure to have your camera ready because the view is quite spectacular. You will have to cross three small bridges along the way and this will give you a great opportunity to take some  pictures.

Once you’re there food and drinks are readily available as well as some cottages and tables. There are three water falls there. The first will be the main and the largest. The paths leading of to the other two are not too difficult to navigate and well worth the trip. You will find more tables and shelters available at the other falls as well. If you plan to do some swimming, life jackets are highly recommended since the water in some spots is 30 or more meters deep. There are guides and rafts available and they will take you under a rock ledge and you will be behind the falls. You then pass through the fall itself, which is quite a unique experience. If you don’t like crowds, I recommend that you go during the week. Transportation to the falls is available via a V-Hire van. It’s a full-size van that can seat 10 comfortably and you can sit back and enjoy the ride.

Bohol

Bohol is a beautiful island paradise located in the Visayas island group in central Philippines. It is famous for its white sand beaches, the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier, the worlds smallest primate. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and coral reefs teaming with marine life. If you love nature, then Bohal is a must see destination for you. There are also more than 1400 caves to explore. The most famous of these is Hinagdanan Cave’s on Panglao island. The cave leads to an underground pool with plenty of stalactites’ & stalagmites.  There is even a sanctuary for the Tarsiers called the Tarsier Trail. Here, visitors are allowed to hold and touch the tiny little primates. Opportunities for scuba diving and snorkeling are plentiful with abundance of coral reefs that surround the island and are rich in marine life. You can even do some dolphin & whale watching at Pamilacan Island. Bohol has numerous species of both dolphins and whales that call the province home and have become a major draw for tourist.

Philippine Tarsier

The Philippine tarsier is one of the one of the world’s smallest primates at about 85 to 160 millimeters or 3.35 to 6.30 in in height. Their eyes are fixed in the skull and they must turn their heads to look around. These little nocturnal primates have very sensitive eyes and pictures with a flash are not allowed.

 

During March the Sandugo Festivalis is held and in May there’s the Tagbilaran City Fiesta and Bolibong Kingking festival among others. There also the Mag-Aso Falls and Loboc River cruises. You can enjoy a small band playing while you eat and enjoy the beautiful view while on the cruise. The towns in Bohol have many old churches dating back to the Spanish error to see. Department stores, money changers, ATM’s, banks, cinemas, restaurants, hospitals, travel agencies, and hotels also can be found here. Bohol is definitely worth a visit by itself or if you’re in Cebu it’s only about a two hour boat ride on the SuperCat ferries away to see the sites and you can return in the evening.

Bohol Island

Boracay

Boracay Island is located off the north-western tip of Panay Island, Philippines. Boracay is world famous for its white sand beaches and is usually the first place mentioned when talking about Philippine vacation spots. Scuba diving, snorkeling, sunbathing and sailing in a slender hulled boats called Paraw are some of the common attractions. A ride in the Paraw is fast and a lot of fun if you don’t mind getting wet.

White Beach, Boracay

White Beach extends almost the entire length of the western side of the island. During the peak season of the tourist season (December through July) the beach is ideal for day swimming in its warm waters. On the east side of the island is the windward shore, with an almost continuous onshore winds and a protected reef that is ideal for both the Scuba diving and Surfering. It’s also a great spot for backpackers with its many great scenic spots.

At the end of the day, you can view the spectacular sunsets walking along the beach or  from one of the  beachfront bars which serve up mixed tropical cocktails to titillate your senses.

 At night there is plenty to do with numerous clubs and bars scattered along the beach. The Lenten and Christmas seasons are the most popular times to visit because of the many fiestas. For those of you that like golf there is a 18 hole, par 72 golf course at Filinvest’s Fairways & Blue Waters located not far from the beach.

Siargao Island

Siargao Island is the #1 surfing destination in the Philippines situated in the pristine and backdrop of the Surigao del Norte paradise. It is Fed by the waves of the Pacific Ocean, this island is the Philippine’s alternative to Oahu and Tahiti. The island is home to roughly 200,000 Filipinos and has a well-preserved wetland of mangroves (largest in Mindanao) in the south and west, and a sprawling coastline composed of white sand beaches and unspoiled lagoons in the east which faces the Pacific Ocean. Siargao has excellent surfing conditions, particularly during the southwest “habagat” monsoon from August to November, when the prevailing wind is offshore. There are many beautiful reefs to see also if you like diving. It is recommended you use a local guide if it’s your first time here to avoid the potential hazards.

Siargao’s nightlife is mainly along General Luna, especially near Cloud Nine where local and foreign tourists gather for annual surfing and other activities. Bars and discos are very busy along this stretch of beach and really come alive at night. I’s also recommenced that you bring enough pesos with you since there aren’t many places to change your money here.

Palawan

Palawan is largest and most preserved island group in the Philippines. It consists of 1700 islands. The majestic rainforest, caves, coral reefs, mangroves, beaches and beautiful clear blue waters are just a sample of the wonderful things you can see there. There’s over 10,000 square kilometers of coral reefs that surround the islands. Below is a very small sample of some of the things you can see in Palawan.

Tubbataha Reef

Some must see attractions are Puerto Princess Subterranean River National Park, a.k.a.Sabang’s St. Paul Subterranean National Park. It was formed naturally over millions of years; the exact length of the caves and river network is still unknown today. The Stalactites and stalagmites and multi colored stones in the caverns are a wonder to see. If you’re into diving there’s the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park. Tubbataha Reef consist of two atolls. The northern most serves as a sanctuary for birds and sea turtles. The Capital of Palawan, Puerto Princes offers a night life with several clubs and bars. If it’s nature and diving you are seeking, then Palawan would be certainly tough to beat.

A few other popular places to see are, Tigman Beach. A great beach for swimming. There are two resorts there, Camille del Sol and Princessa Holiday.

Estrella Falls

Fresh cool waters cascading rapidly from Victoria Peak to twin falls at the mountain’s edge, Estrella Falls is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The crystal clear waters flow into three natural pools of varying depths. One has a depth that is best suited for good swimmers; another is somewhat shallower and is safer for those who do not swim well and there is third pool that is shallow and ideal for children. The Municipal Government of Narra, has provided facilities in the forms of cottages, huts, shades, restrooms and provisions for grilling.

It’s home to the endangered Philippine cockatoo, locally known as katala or kalabukay. It’s also home to some 68 other kinds of birds including the Blue-Headed Racket Tail, the Black-Naped Oriole and the White Vintage Shama.

Tabon Caves Complex is a network of some 200 caves of which only 29 have been fully explored. The site was declared a Museum Reservation Site in 1972 by Presidential Proclamation No. 996. It’s believed to be the first pace humans settled in the Philiipines. It can be reached by boat from the Quezon wharf in about 30 minutes.
