Kasawan Falls – Cebu

Kasawan Falls – Cebu

Kawasan Falls is a very popular destination in the southern part of Cebu. About a 2-hour drive located in Badian Town. When you arrive you will have to walk about 20 minutes or so along a rocky path to reach the main waterfall. There’s a beautiful stream and a large variety of tropical plants along the path.  Be sure to have your camera ready because the view is quite spectacular. You will have to cross three small bridges along the way and this will give you a great opportunity to take some  pictures.

Second waterfall

Once you’re there food and drinks are readily available as well as some cottages and tables. There are three water falls there. The first will be the main and the largest. The paths leading of to the other two are not too difficult to navigate and well worth the trip. You will find more tables and shelters available at the other falls as well. If you plan to do some swimming, life jackets are highly recommended since the water in some spots is 30 or more meters deep. There are guides and rafts available and they will take you under a rock ledge and you will be behind the falls. You then pass through the fall itself, which is quite a unique experience. If you don’t like crowds, I recommend that you go during the week. Transportation to the falls is available via a V-Hire van. It’s a full-size van that can seat 10 comfortably and you can sit back and enjoy the ride.

Cebu is an island province located in the central Visayas. It’s perhaps better known as the “Queen City of the South”. Cebu continues to be a top tourist destination for tourist from all over the world. The United Kingdom based Condé Nast Traveler Magazine named Cebu the fourth best Asian-Pacific island destination in 2009.

Cebu is one of the oldest cities of the country and is rich in history. Ferdinand Magellan landed there in 1521 and was later killed in the battle of Mactan by Datu Lapu-Lapu. There are monuments to the two men at Mactan, the location of the battle. This is a popular spot and not surprising given the history and it’s a very interesting place to see.

Taoist Temple

Some other landmarks to visit are the “Basilica of Santo Niño”. Originally built in 1565 and rebuilt of stone in 1739, it still stands today and is in use. The Cebu Taoist Temple is open to the public. The temple includes a chapel, library and a souvenir shop. The large spacious balconies offer a beautiful scenic view of the downtown Cebu City. While you’re in the area, take a ride to the “Top”. It’s a small park located at the highest point in Cebu and offers some spectacular views in any direction, especially at night when you can see the city lights.

If you happen to be visiting in January you might want to attend the “Sinulog Festival”. Its held during the third week of the month. There are also numerous beaches and some world class diving on Mactan Island.
